Stockton, CA…Hanford’s DJ Netto stalked Roseville’s Colby Copeland before executing a last lap, last corner pass in traffic to claim a thrilling victory with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour on Saturday night at the Stockton Dirt Track.

Netto’s win came at the inaugural “Tribute to Roy Van Conett” aboard the familiar Netto Ag/ Mission sponsored No. 88N mount. It marked his third career triumph with the tour as he became the eighth different winner in eight SCCT events this season.

“We had a great car tonight, so I have to thank Drew Warner and this entire team,” Netto commented in victory lane. “I kept trying to run that little higher line and close the gap between myself and Colby (Copeland). We had that one caution that took us out of lapped traffic and I just kept hoping that we’d get another shot at it. I drove it in there as hard as I could on the final corner and luckily it stuck. We are pretty pumped to get another one here at Stockton.”

Despite the tough ending for Copeland it was another strong outing for the VSR No. 5V team. The runner up effort marked his third second place finish in the last five Sprint Car Challenge Tour events held. Fremont’s Shane Golobic battled his way forward as always and rounded out the podium behind the wheel of the Matt Wood Racing No. 17W. High Sierra Industries Dash winner Ryan Robinson crossed the stripe in fourth, with Hanford’s Michael Faccinto in fifth.

The top-10 in the 30-lapper was completed by Penngrove’s Chase Johnson, Oklahoma’s Ryan Timms, Lincoln’s Blake and Tanner Carrick and Hanford’s Mitchell Faccinto. Concord’s Joey Ancona claimed the Pit Stop USA Hard Charger Award in the feature with a drive from 24th to 12th. The B-main was captured impressively by Wilton’s Ashlyn Rodriguez, while the High Sierra Industries Dash as noted went to Ryan Robinson.

The four 10-lap heat races were picked up by Shane Golobic, DJ Netto, Ryan Timms and Ryan Robinson. Netto opened the evening by setting the Bianchi Farms Fast Time by clocking a 13.942 around the Stockton oval. A total of 29 cars competed at round number eight on the season.

The next event for the Sprint Car Challenge Tour presented by Elk Grove Ford and Abreu Vineyards will take place on Saturday July 31st at the Merced Speedway.
