Stockton, CA – May 23, 2017…With Memorial Day weekend on deck the traveling Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour presented by Abreu Vineyards is set to visit the centrally located Stockton Dirt Track for the first time ever this Saturday night May 27.
The outing marks the first of four events at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds based track in 2017, with return appearances including the Jimmy Sills Classic on Sunday July 2, the Saturday August 25
Salute to LeRoy Van Conett and the season-ending Tribute to Gary Patterson on Saturday November 4.
The Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour presented by Abreu Vineyards has seen four different winners in as many races and will look to make it five-for-five on Saturday.
After further review and discussion, Saturday's event will not be a double point show as previously released. The A-main though will pay $3,500-to-win plus the Kyle Larson Racing Bonus Money that is up for grabs to full-time owners. All non-transfer cars in the B-main will also receive a solid $200. The cars that transfer into the A-main from the B-main will receive $100 to help with fuel from running the extra laps.
“We’re excited to get the Sprint Car Challenge Tour season back underway on Saturday at the Stockton Dirt Track,” said Russell Motorsports Inc. President Scott Russell. “The racing has been fantastic thus far and this weekend will be much of the same. The Stockton Dirt Track is one of the great venues that we have on the west coast and we look forward to seeing everyone at SCCT round five. Stockton promoter Tony Noceti is one of the biggest supporters of our tour, so we definitely hope everyone can make it out this weekend.”
Going into the Stockton Dirt Track this weekend Roseville’s Sean Becker stands at the top of the points driving the potent Menne Motorsports No. 75 sprinter. The “Shark” has finished on the podium in three of the four races held so far and sits seven-markers ahead of current runner up Kyle Hirst. Both Becker and Hirst will be gunning for their initial Sprint Car Challenge Tour win of the season, as well as their first career Stockton triumph on Saturday.
Most recent tour winner Willie Croft of Roseville ranks third in points, with Fremont’s Shane Golobic and round one winner Cory Eliason of Kingsburg completing the top-five. Croft earned a thrilling late-race victory last time out at the Petaluma Speedway on April 29 and hopes to make it back-to-back this weekend. Golobic captured the 2014 Tribute to Gary Patterson at the Stockton Dirt Track, while Eliason was victorious in last July’s Salute to LeRoy Van Conett.
Rounding out the top-10 in the standings going into round five are Hanford’s Mitchell Faccinto, Hollister’s Ryan Bernal, Princeton’s Mason Moore, Roseville’s Colby Copeland and Penngrove’s Buddy Kofoid. Copeland nearly picked up the win at Petaluma on April 29, before finishing second at the checkered flag. He now goes into the track where he earned his first career sprint car victory at in 2014.
More drivers set for action this Saturday will include Hanford’s DJ Netto, Visalia’s Steven Tiner, Placerville’s Andy Gregg and Jimmy Trulli, Fresno’s Dominic Scelzi, Sebastopol’s Bradley Terrell, Watsonville’s Justin Sanders, Rio Linda’s Cody Lamar, Sacramento’s Herman Klein and Billy Butler, Citrus Height’s Kalib Henry, Brentwood’s Colton Slack, Hollister’s Tony Gualda, Tracy’s Kyle Offill, Grass Valley’s Robert Stice and others.
The front gate of the Stockton Dirt Track will open at 4pm this Saturday May 27, with drivers meeting at 4pm and cars on track around 4:30pm for wheel packing. A full program of racing will follow. All seating is general admission during the night with adult tickets $20, kids 5 to 10 will be $10 and four and under are free.
